We print booklets in Montreal for programs, catalogues, manuals, lookbooks, annual reports, menus and training material. Production runs in-house, which means the binding, the paper and the turnaround are all controlled under one roof rather than jobbed out.

Short runs are welcome. There is no large minimum on most products, so a 25-copy board report and a 5,000-copy catalogue are both normal work here.

Choosing a binding

This is the decision that drives cost, durability and how the finished booklet feels. The four options below cover almost every job.

Binding Best for Why choose it
Saddle stitch Programs, newsletters, thin catalogues Most economical. Folded and stapled through the spine. Page count must be a multiple of four
Perfect bound Catalogues, annual reports, books Square glued spine that can be printed on. Looks and shelves like a retail book
Spiral bound Manuals, cookbooks, workbooks Lays completely flat and pages turn a full 360 degrees
Wire-o bound Presentations, premium manuals Lays flat like spiral with a cleaner, more finished appearance

Rule of thumb. Under roughly 40 pages, saddle stitch is usually the most cost-effective choice. Above that, perfect binding tends to look and hold up better. If the booklet will be used hands-on at a desk, on a bench or in a kitchen, choose spiral or wire-o so it stays open.

Turnaround

Most small jobs run 2 to 7 business days depending on the production speed selected. Saddle stitched booklets can be produced in as little as 3 days depending on specifications. Rush service is available on many products.

Turnaround starts when the proof is approved, not when the order is placed. We provide an online proof on every order so nothing goes to press before you have seen exactly what will print.

Paper and finishing

Cover and text stock are specified separately, which is what gives a booklet its feel. A heavier cover on a lighter text block is the standard combination for catalogues and reports.

Cover finishes affect both durability and appearance:

  • Matte is non-reflective and easy to write on
  • Gloss is shiny and makes photography and colour look vibrant
  • Soft touch has a velvety, premium feel

File setup

  • CMYK colour at 300 DPI
  • 0.125 in bleed on all trimmed edges
  • Fonts converted to outlines
  • PDF, JPEG, TIFF or EPS
  • Supply pages as single pages in reading order, not pre-imposed spreads, unless we request otherwise
  • For saddle stitch, total page count must be a multiple of four

If the file is not print-ready, our in-house design services can correct or rebuild it rather than sending the job back to you.

Frequently asked questions

Which binding should I choose for my booklet? Saddle stitch suits short, budget-friendly booklets. Perfect bound gives thicker books a professional square spine. Spiral and wire-o let manuals lay flat and stay durable in daily use.

How fast can you print booklets? Most small jobs run 2 to 7 business days depending on the speed selected. Saddle-stitched booklets can be produced in as little as 3 days depending on specifications, and rush service is available.

Is there a minimum quantity for booklet printing? There is no large minimum on most products. We handle short-run booklet printing as well as high-volume runs.

How many pages can a saddle-stitched booklet have? Saddle stitch works best for lower page counts and requires the total page count to be a multiple of four, since each folded sheet produces four pages. For thicker books, perfect binding is usually the better choice.

How should I set up my booklet file? Supply CMYK artwork at 300 DPI with 0.125 inch bleed and fonts converted to outlines, as PDF, JPEG, TIFF or EPS. Supply pages as single pages in reading order rather than pre-imposed spreads unless we ask otherwise.

Do you ship booklets outside Quebec? Yes. We ship throughout Canada and the United States, with destinations beyond North America handled by special request.

Can you design the booklet for me? Yes. Our in-house design services can take a booklet from concept through to print-ready files, or clean up supplied artwork that does not meet spec.
