Door hangers are die-cut cards that loop over a door handle and wait, impossible to miss, for the resident to come home. Unlike mail that lands in a pile of flyers, a door hanger gets handled one-on-one: it has to be picked up, turned over, and read before it goes anywhere. First Press prints them in full colour on sturdy cardstock with a clean die-cut hole, in the popular 4.25 x 11 inch format as well as a compact 3.5 x 8.5 inch size, with both sides available for your message.
You can add interactive elements such as tear-away coupons or detachable contact cards, turning a simple notice into something people keep. They are a proven tool for local service businesses, restaurants, real estate agents, political campaigns, and property managers.
Customers use door hangers for neighbourhood launches of lawn care, snow removal, and cleaning services, restaurant and pizzeria menus with first-order coupons, real estate just-listed and just-sold campaigns, contractor and roofing canvassing after storms, hotel do-not-disturb signs, property management notices, church and community event invitations, and get-out-the-vote drives.
Choose the size by how much you have to say. The 4.25 x 11 format gives room for a menu, service list, or coupon strip, while the 3.5 x 8.5 size is economical for a single, punchy offer. Whichever you pick, design both sides; the back of a door hanger is read far more often than the back of a flyer, and it is the perfect place for testimonials, a map, or a second offer.
Think in quantities of neighbourhoods, not pieces. Door-to-door distribution moves through hundreds of homes per day per walker, so order enough to cover complete sectors, and remember that unit cost drops quickly at higher quantities. Repeated touches work: many service businesses hang the same streets two or three times a season.
For files, work from our downloadable templates so the die-cut handle hole and any perforation lines land exactly where intended. Set up in CMYK with 0.125 inch bleed, keep text at least 0.25 inches from trim and perforations, and use 300 dpi images since door hangers are read in hand. Orders over $200 ship free by ground from our Montreal shop.
Yes. A perforated strip lets recipients detach a coupon or business-card-sized contact card while keeping your main message on the door. It is one of the best ways to track campaign response.
Count the doors in your target sectors and add a margin for repeat passes. Most local campaigns start at 500 to 1,000 pieces per neighbourhood, and per-unit pricing improves as quantities rise.
They can be. Double-sided printing doubles your space, so we recommend using the front for the hook and the offer, and the back for details, testimonials, and contact information.
Always supply a print-ready PDF with at least 1/8 inch (0.125 in) of bleed on every side and crop marks included, built in CMYK. Keep important text and logos at least 1/8 inch inside the trim line so nothing is cut off. If you are not sure how to export it that way, our file preparation guide walks through the exact settings for Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Word. Prefer to design it yourself? Use the personalization option in the upload section to build your artwork right on the page before you order.
Printing both sides? Upload a single PDF with two pages, page one for the front and page two for the back, both the same size with 1/8 inch bleed and crop marks, rather than two separate files. You can merge two pages into one PDF for free with Adobe Acrobat online.
