About foamboard signs
Foamboard, also called foamcore, sandwiches a lightweight foam centre between two smooth cardstock faces. The result is a board that is impressively rigid for its weight, with a flawless flat surface that makes printed photography and fine text look gallery-grade. At about 3/16 in thick, our standard foamcore has real presence on a wall or easel while remaining light enough to hang with simple adhesive strips.
It is the most cost-effective rigid board First Press offers, which makes it the default choice for indoor displays, presentations, and event signage where budget and polish both matter.

Tips for choosing your options
Choose foamcore when the sign stays indoors and dry. The foam centre is sensitive to moisture and dents, so for outdoor jobs or high-traffic handling, Sintra or coroplast are better suited. We also advise against shipping foamcore, since the corners ding in transit even when well packed; if you need a printed poster that couriers safely, order it on Sintra, Styrene, or coroplast instead. The standard 3/16 in thickness suits nearly every display; very large boards benefit from easel backs or wall mounting to stay perfectly flat over time.
Single sided printing covers easel and wall displays. Go double sided for hanging signs or boards visible from both sides of a booth. Counter easels, double sided foam tape, and hook-and-loop strips all hold this light board with ease. A matte laminate is a smart add-on for boards that will be transported between events, protecting corners of the print surface from scuffs and reducing glare under harsh convention hall lighting.
Build files in CMYK at final size with 0.125 in of bleed, and aim for 100 to 150 dpi at full dimensions; a 24x36 in board at that resolution will look sharp even at arm's length. Frequently asked questions
Is foamboard suitable for outdoor use?
No. The paper faces and foam core absorb humidity and can warp. For outdoor signage, choose coroplast for economy or Sintra for a premium finish.
Can you ship foamboard signs?
We do not recommend it. The foam core dents and the corners ding easily in transit, even when carefully packed. If you need a rigid printed poster that travels safely by courier, choose Sintra, Styrene, or coroplast instead; they take the bumps of shipping far better while giving you the same flat, full-colour print.
How do I display a foamcore sign?
Most customers use easels, shelf ledges, or adhesive strips on walls. The board is so light that no heavy hardware is needed.
How should I store boards between events?
Store them flat or upright in a dry space, ideally in a protective sleeve. Avoid leaning heavy items on them, since the foam can dent under pressure.
Foamboard, Sintra, or coroplast: how do I decide?
Foamboard wins indoors on price and polish. Coroplast is the outdoor economy pick for lawns and job sites, and Sintra is the premium board that lasts for years in any setting.
How should I set up and upload my artwork?
Always supply a print-ready PDF with at least 1/8 inch (0.125 in) of bleed on every side and crop marks included, built in CMYK. Keep important text and logos at least 1/8 inch inside the trim line so nothing is cut off.
