Stack of full-colour printed postcards fanned out on a desk

About Our Custom Postcards

Postcards remain one of the most cost-effective ways to put your message directly into someone's hands. Printed on sturdy 14pt cardstock with vibrant full-colour output on both sides, our postcards feel substantial and look sharp, whether they arrive in a mailbox or get handed out at the cash. The popular 5" x 7" format gives you generous room for imagery on the front and a clean layout for your offer, map, or mailing panel on the back.

First Press produces postcards for Montreal businesses of every size, from solo realtors and restaurants to agencies running direct mail campaigns for national clients. Whatever the run size, every card comes off the press with consistent colour and a clean, precise trim.

Popular Uses

Our customers order postcards for direct mail promotions, grand opening announcements, real estate just-listed and just-sold cards, event and concert invitations, restaurant coupons and loyalty offers, appointment reminders for clinics and salons, thank-you cards tucked into e-commerce packages, and seasonal greetings sent to client lists. If it needs to be read fast and kept around, a postcard does the job.

Tips for Choosing Your Options

For most marketing work, 14pt cardstock with a gloss or UV coating on the front delivers maximum colour pop. If recipients will write on the back, or if you are addressing cards by hand or running them through an inkjet addressing system, keep the back uncoated or matte. UV-coated surfaces resist pen ink, so plan your coating around how the card will actually be used.

Prepare your file at the final trim size plus 0.125" of bleed on all four sides, in CMYK at 300 dpi. Keep text and logos at least 0.125" inside the trim line. Our downloadable front and back templates make setup easy. If you are mailing through Canada Post, leave the address zone on the back clear of heavy ink coverage.

Postcards get noticeably cheaper per unit as quantities climb, so if you are planning two mail drops, printing both batches at once usually saves money. Orders over $200 also qualify for free ground shipping anywhere in Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I print a different design on the front and back?

Yes. Both sides print in full colour, and many customers pair a bold image on the front with an offer, coupon, or mailing layout on the back. Upload a single PDF with two pages, page one for the front and page two for the back, using our templates.

Are your postcards compatible with Canada Post mailing requirements?

Our standard sizes fall within common Canada Post machineable ranges, and we offer mailing support. Contact our Montreal team before you finalize artwork and we will help you set up a compliant address area.

What file format should I send?

A press-ready PDF is best, exported in CMYK at 300 dpi with 0.125" bleed and fonts embedded or outlined. Our prepress team checks every file before it hits the press.

Can you personalize each postcard with the recipient's name?

Yes. With variable data printing we can change the name, offer, or promo code on every card within a single run, which typically lifts direct mail response.

How should I set up and upload my artwork?

Always supply a print-ready PDF with at least 1/8 inch (0.125 in) of bleed on every side and crop marks included, built in CMYK. Keep important text and logos at least 1/8 inch inside the trim line so nothing is cut off. If you are not sure how to export it that way, our file preparation guide walks through the exact settings for Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Word. Prefer to design it yourself? Use the personalization option in the upload section to build your artwork right on the page before you order.

Printing both sides? Upload a single PDF with two pages, page one for the front and page two for the back, both the same size with 1/8 inch bleed and crop marks, rather than two separate files. You can merge two pages into one PDF for free with Adobe Acrobat online.
