About Sintra PVC signs
Sintra is a closed-cell expanded PVC board with a smooth, slightly matte surface that takes ink beautifully. It is rigid enough to hang flat without warping, yet light enough to mount with simple hardware, and it shrugs off moisture in a way that paper and foam products simply cannot. That combination makes it one of the most versatile substrates we print at First Press.
Because the colour is printed directly onto the board, edges stay clean and the finished sign has a premium, professional feel. Businesses that want signage with a longer service life than coroplast or foamboard, without jumping to the cost of aluminum, almost always land on Sintra.

Tips for choosing your options
Thickness is the first decision. A 3mm panel is the workhorse: stiff, light, and ideal for wall-mounted or hanging signs up to mid sizes. Step up to 6mm when the sign is large, will stand on its own, or will live outdoors where wind load matters. For double sided printing, both faces print edge to edge, so supply two artwork files at the same trim size.
Indoors, the standard print finish is all most projects need. For outdoor installations or high-touch areas, consider adding lamination to boost scratch and UV resistance, plus drilled holes if you plan a hardware install; we typically drill all four corners unless you request another layout. For tool-free mounting, double sided foam tape and hook-and-loop fasteners hold a 3mm panel securely indoors. Matte lamination cuts glare under store lighting, while gloss makes colours punch harder.
For file prep, build your artwork in CMYK with 0.125 in of bleed on every side and keep text well inside the trim. At large format sizes, 100 to 150 dpi at full final dimensions is plenty. Can Sintra signs be used outdoors year-round?
Yes. Expanded PVC is waterproof and handles Montreal winters well. For multi-year exposure in direct sun, we recommend adding a laminate to protect the print from UV fading.
What is the difference between 3mm and 6mm Sintra?
3mm is lighter and more economical, perfect for mounted signs. 6mm is noticeably stiffer, better for larger panels, freestanding displays, and windy outdoor locations.
Can you print on both sides?
Absolutely. Double sided printing is a popular option for hanging signs and window-facing displays. Just upload a single PDF with two pages, one for each side.
When should I pick Sintra over foamboard or coroplast?
Foamboard is the budget pick for indoor displays, and coroplast wins for short-term outdoor signs on a stake. Choose Sintra when the sign needs to look polished and last for years, indoors or out.
How should I set up and upload my artwork?
Always supply a print-ready PDF with at least 1/8 inch (0.125 in) of bleed on every side and crop marks included, built in CMYK. Keep important text and logos at least 1/8 inch inside the trim line so nothing is cut off. Good quality material, ships wellGot a couple of PVC signs for an event and they looked great. Nice matte finish and the thickness was just right. I thought the file might print too dark but it actually came out perfect. Delivery was 1 day later then expected but no big deal
