Matte kills glare. Under gallery lights, office lighting or glass frames, matte stays readable and photographs well, which is why art prints and framed work default to it.
If the poster lives behind glass or under direct lighting, choose matte. If it fights for attention on a wall of other posters, gloss.
Flat or mounted
A flat poster is made for frames, walls and tape. For displays that stand on easels, sit on counters or get moved between events, order it mounted on foam board: the poster arrives rigid, flat and ready to stand. For mounted pieces that need to survive handling or weather, step up to styrene or Sintra.
